Default 14.96!

Woo did my first ever sub 15 run in my 99 3.8. It's an auto with full bolt ons. So not too bad considering I have like maybe $3000 in the whole car haha.

Question to you race junkies though... Should I get a camshaft for my car and tune it? Or would it be too hard on my gas? I might end up selling it this summer anyways... I want myself a big ole truck :P

More agressive cams will typically make a car idle richer, and spend more gas when the throttle blades are closed, as well as opening up pulse widths in higher power ranges as you enter the range that makes it more fun to drive. Cruising, however, is rarely affected, since the ECU will change the pulse widths in closed loop calculations to compensate for the change in air volume entering the engine. Basically, if your driving habits don't change, neither will your gas mileage. It will just feel more sluggish at lower RPM at the expense of more power at higher RPM.

Get the camshaft first, then Tune it after you get the camshaft installed.

lol, I read your Orginal post wrong. I thought you said "should I get a camshaft or tune it." A camshaft, tune and stall should put you in the mid-high 13s. But if your worried about gas milage, you may wanna considers a 100 shot of nitrous. Get the nitrous, camshaft & the tune, and maybe some steper gears, and you could be running mid 12s. But, I would start with the camshaft first. Keep in mind, if you get nitrous down the road, your going to have to pay for a new tune. So you may save money by doing it all at once.

3.42 is enough for now heh. I don't wanna go too extreme though. No need for nitrous and all that. I've got a 3200 stall converter... Not sure if that's too high though. If I don't sell it today (found a truck I may trade for)... Then I will get a camshaft and tune it most likely. Me and my Dad did a custom intake for my car so its a little dry right now. But I dont wanna tune it, then have to go right back and do it again...

i too have a catback and air intake and a few bolt on BSfor my 3.8 and i still got a 15.9

stig runs 15.2 with his car, and they are built pretty much the same. < 3 tenths in a different car at a different track isnt that major of a diff

and location. track locations can affect alot. in texas ls1's run in the 12s all the time, in fact thats where the record runs are all done for many cars. here in iowa, my buddy got a 12.9 with his geared and bolton ls1 with a 1.9 60. course i had only a lid and ran only 4 tenths behind him.
