2.8/3.1/3.4 V6s were all 60* V's. 3.8 V6 and V8s are 90*, so trans won't work. Learned that a long time ago when I wanted to put a 3800 SII s/c in my Buick Century. Haha.

So a 305 or 350? Man, I was hoping for a 572 or LT5. Some day, I shall see it happen.

Any ways, I think the front suspension needs changed to support the weight and motor mounts of the V8. Will need a V8 trans. 700R4 (4L60) from any 2wd GM will work. Possibly new drive shaft since I have no clue what the 3.1 had for a tranny so the lengths may be different. Rear end you'll be okay, but may want to upgrade to disc brakes at some point. Did I miss anything?

His should have the 700R4 also, but the bell housings are different. Unless GM made the RWD V6s 90* or they implemented a way for the bell housing to be used for multiple applications.

True Your prob right about the trans but I dont think he will need a new driveshaft if he gets another 700r4. But idk for sure cause mine has a turbo 350 trans

Did a little research. From what I made out, it does have a 700R4 so the driveshaft length will stay the same.

That's what I figured. You decide on an engine yet?

I know I'm brand new to this forum, but I would love to see someone(maybe even this guy) throw in the 4.4L S/C Northstar LC3 into this gen, I know the amount of work and fabrication would be insane, but one can dream right? haha so my vote for engine is the 4.4 LC3
