I did abit more research on the 327 and I do believe they made a 4 bolt truck 327 I cant find anything about medium journal stuff and all the L79 options were supposedly 2 bolts and the 010 block casting was started in production in 69 I am most curious about the medium jounal size because unless they used spacer bearings the block would be unique also(in addition to the crank). You could achieve a 4 bolt 327 by using a 010 block 4 bolt 350 and dropping in a 3.25 inch crank so it could have been a early run 010 block with the 327 crank but it would have been a large journal. If I got all the facts straight this is one rare engine, I wonder if it is for sale???

back to the big block small block analysis here are some wieghts I found any disagreements with the small and big block numbers??

Here's a Post from MORTEC "3970010....327.....69....2...Trucks and industrial" You must remember that my Dad and I ordered this car in late 68 and it's possible that the assembly line installed this engine perhaps as a Crate order from their Truck assembly line which I believe was in Oshawa and across the street from the Pontiac Plant. The Crank Forging bears the # 3914672....327.......forged..medium journal...3.25" stroke and the Cylinder head Casting is 3917291....67-68...302/327/350 with 1.94/1.55 which I machined for 2.02/1.60 11/32nd stemmed Manley Ultra Lites, opened the spring pocket to accept 1.439 springs and screw in studs. I no longer have the original Cast Intake or Holley 650dp spread bore. I have an EdleBrock RPM topped with a Holley 750dp to replace those items. I've have a Sig Erson Mechanical Flat Tappet Billet Cam and CAT Shaft Mounted Roller Rocker assembly to replace the beehive. The Block is Bored .030 to accept TRW Forgings and I have to turn the Rod Journals on the Crank as this was the reason I tore the motor down in the first place. I plan to buy either Eagle SIR or Scat 4340 Forged Rods to complete the assembly.

This is not a fictitious motor. I believe it was a case of the L49 Option Request late in the season and an option which was not common for Pontiac Orders. The 69 4 Bolt 327 Block truck block engines may have arrived on the scene so they just stuck in. Not that the 4 Bolt really makes any difference but very rare find in a car let alone a Pontiac and I can mount the Stock GM Vette Windage tray to the 4 Bolt.

I remember when US Chevy Enthusiasts longed for the Canadian Chevy TH400 as the US at that time did not have a TH400 that would bolt to a Chevy.

Interesting What ))

---------------------------------------------------------------
GRIFF: After thought - Right - It's the 1968 327 Large Journal or Medium Journal if you account for the 400 block.

Any way I do see the "2" designation in the MORTEC listing signifying 327's only had the 2 Bolt 010 block in 69 and I starting to 2nd guess myself if I could have MIX 010 blocks. I was so busy in the early Seventies rebuilding SBC's it is possible it did but I can't see myself doing it. Back in them days opening an engine to find a 4 Bolt was not uncommon. MAN my Cousin and I ran a Sunoco Station and we had 2x4 and 6 Pac intakes laying all over the place and ran a 56 283 Belair at Barrie Speed Way, Wasaga Beach, Sable Beach, and Pine Crest in TO. Our Garage GO FOR was a 66 Pontiac Sedan Bench Seat with a 327 6 Pac bolted to a Long Stick shifted Muncie - I remember tagging a brand NEW 69 Camaro 396 RS/SS with it on the BayField Ramp just because I wanted a closer look at it. The Guy had this desperate look when the Sedan which was staying in his face suddenly lurched forward beating him to the 4 lane - lol

PS: Whether this engine was originally a L79 or L49 Option I can't be sure. It's been some 40 years and my memory has been tampered with as well ))

My Specialty was head porting. I ported heads for various speed shops and used Grumpy Jenkin Specs. The 291 Casting on this 327 are my Crowning Achievement. After years of experience , it still took me 6 months to perfect them.

The 4 bolt makes a huge difference you cannot believe how many people do not believe chevy made a 4 bolt 327 I now feel I am one up on them. I didnt mean to come across as saying it was a ficticious engine and I didnt say it. I think I had the right idea with the truck block 327 crank and relized the timing was close ie 68 and 69. The medium journal size is what through me off is it the same size as the 350 or is it different??? I type to damn slow I was typing as you were lol

FluffyTiger: I have a friend that ran a 400 SBC in a Vega Wagon that could wheelie most the 1/4 mile. He also ran a 427 Square Port in a 3 Gen Camaro. He said the biggest problem was finding room under the car to fit the Exhaust.

In all My years, I've never seen a 327 come as a 4 bolt. Usually it's a 350 block with a 327 crank used to make a 4 bolt 327, I've seen 4 bolt 302's although the eary ones were 2 bolts. FYI, The thickest cylinder 400's with the best metal were '509' castings. Not all 400's have 3 freeze plugs, many look like regular 350's. even without the 3rd unused plug boss. There are alot of stories out there about certain engines, just not all of them were produced although they were onb "the books ". I have actually seen an order form from Chevrolet for a LS6 1970 1/2 SS 454 camaro. A buddy ordered it and waited and waited and finally the edict came down that the had changed their mind about making it available. Too Bad, Huh?
