Default Starting Problem

I have a 67 with a 350 engine and 4 speed trans. I'm having trouble starting it. When the ignition switch is in the start position, turning the motor over, it just spins and does not start. As the motor is spinning, the instant the key is released to the run position, the motor starts. Is this a problem with the ignition switch shorting something out or something else?

Are you still running a points & condenser distributor, or is whatever you're running still connected to the factory coil supply wire? If so, I have a feeling your 12 volt bypass wire that goes from the starter to the + terminal on the coil might not be hooked up. The coil runs off of a resistance wire (less than 10 volts generally), but it needs a full 12 volts when trying to start because of the heavy draw from the starter. That's what that bypass wire is for.
