Default Starter Motor

Recently my engine has not been starting every time I try to turn the key. Yesterday and today after I drove somewhere and it started fine. However, after I tried to start it again, nothing happened. The accessories still worked and the lights came on, but the starter motor did nothing. Then after about 45 minutes I tried to start it again and the motor turned over and started up without any hesitation. I haven't had a chance to look at the starter motor yet, but I'm thinking it might be a bad connection between the battery and the starter motor. Any thoughts on what else it might be?

Try cleaning your battery connections and the ground - thats a really common cause of camaros randomly not wanting to start when you turn the key.

I've tried cleaning the leads and checking the leads on the solenoid and starter. All the leads have no corrosion and the starter and solenoid are fine. I'm thinking it might be electrical somewhere, but i'm not really sure where to start looking in the ignition system.

what yr? if you have a chip on your key it may be vats. you need to wire brush the battery terminals and the battery cable ends. they get a layer of stuff on em sometimes that is hard to see and comes off with a wire brush.

its a 91 and yes, it has a chip in the key. The last time i tried to start it, instead of not making any noise there was one click and then nothing. I tried to figure out where it was coming from, but couldn't find it. I'm going to get the alternator tested today just in case it is that. If it is the vats, can i just get a key with a new resistor, or would i need to replace the actual system?

sometimes its just the key, sometimes its the ohm reader in the column. if its vats you should not get a click. bad ignition switch or connection would. not sure if the 91 has a power junction box like the 93 (small plastic box by battery) but if it does take the wires lose and clean them when you brush the cables and battery. also check and clean the connection and wire ends at the starter.
