short or long water pump?

Default short or long water pump?

so im trying to figure out what the difference is between the 2 and witch one is more comon on 1st gen camaros. im only going to be running p/s pump and alternator...and i would like them as low and compact as possible...any advice would help..
.....dose the hamonic balancer make a difference?

alot depends on what u are using. im not sure which was used more on the first gens. the longer one is needed to clear the timing cover on some of the motors. if u are using a double roller timing chain with the bigger timing cover u need the longer pump. if u have the belt pully on the crankshaft that goes with the longer pump u will need the longer pump.

On the Camaro, the short style water pump was used on the 67-68. 1969 models and up have the long style. Either pump is going to clear a stock timing chain cover. Harmonic balancer is the same. The water pump and crank pulleys are different. Alternator brackets are different. With the long pump, the alternator goes on the passenger side of the engine. With the short pump the alternator goes on the drivers side. Low and compact is fine, but you want to have your fan as close to the radiator to work it's best, so with a short pump you're going to need to space the fan out more. Unless you're going to be using an electric fan, then there's no issue.
