Really bad idol
4 months ago i went through a huge puddle and killed my engine. I dried all the wires and the engine. I replaced everything i could that i thought would of been affected by the water. Ever since then my car while warming up idols around 400-450 and there is a bad knocking sound between my tranny and my engine. When the car warms up to normal operating temp. it idols between 1100-2300. I need help on how to fix it. my computer tells me code 24 which is my (vehicle speed sensor) and my (throttle positioning sensor). I have tried millions of times to fix my tps but it will not go down to the right voltage. I have tried a new tps and those are worse. HELP.
I have a 1987 camaro RS coupe with a 2.8L V6 163 cubic inch, MPFI system. I have replaced my TPS,O2 sensor, air filters, oil Which had alot of water in it after the puddle, the MAF sensor,MAP sensor, and all my gaskets.
can u make a tape of the knocking and let us hear it? that would be a big help. i am at a loss on the tps not giving good numbers. what are the numbers? is there still water getting in the oil? with the knocking and the car running bad and... water in the oil? water in the oil can do bad things to the rod and main bearings. how deep was this puddle? did the motor get ran with the oil water mix. hitting a hot motor with cold water is not a good thing. are u sure the knocking is not an exhaust leak from a cracked exhaust manifold?
The voltage is supposed to be at .5 volts at idol and 4.5 at full throttle. my TPS will go down to 1.68 volts at idol. The puddle was a foot and a half deep.my car drove 2 miles after the puddle to get it home. I have checked the exhaust manifold and short of a little rust on the exterior its perfect. My engine was at 180 degrees when i hit it. and i can make a tape of the sound tomorrow.
yes water in the oil is bad but two miles down the road then changing it wont hurt it. Its hard to say what knock is without hearing it, and for the fast idle, you know the sensor itself is not the problem, so you will either have a short in the wiring for that circuit for the ecm itself was shorted and needs to be replaced. Those two are your only other options..
