Default Questions about what engine to use in my 86 iroc-z

So recently i bought a 1986 iroc-z canaro, it has a 305 tpi in it and it also has some other work such as a lil bigger cam, port and polished heads, accel distr.b&m mega shifter. few other small things. i was considering putting a 350 in it but im not sure how much that will cost and what parts i would need to do that. so basically my question is should i keep the 305 or get a 350. also should i keep the tpi or go with a carb. and if you do go with a carb what would be the few eco? thank you.

Go 350 carbed I had a carbed 400 small block in my 86 Z. and you can pretty much find carbed small blocks in any old truck. Parts are plentiful

I would stick with the 305, it's not a bad motor. Plus it's already got some work done to it.

I changed over from a v-6 to a carb v-8 and its a lot of work and money to do it right. honestly just put a little more into your 305 and it will do just fine.

Your headlights have nothing to do with the computer on any car running on OBD-I. As for the distribuor, if you're going with a new motor anyway, the old distributor won't even be in the car. Unless You want to make insane power and have alot of money, you'll get better results for the cost fixing up your 305. And if you're worried about fuel economy, get a better job first. No offense, but building a fast car is expensive, and so is driving it, and if gas prices are a major concern, it's not your time yet.

thats the same question i was having for a while. apparently building up a 305 is a waste of money. you could get much more out of a 350 for just about the same amount of money. but i would still love to see the look on a persons face when i tell them they just got beat by a 305....so if u decide to go with the 350, let me know and ill take the tpi stuff off ur hands (intake, runners, computer, harness etc)
