Default question on a 383 crate engine

I went to a my local Checkers Auto Parts to price a reman truck engine for a Tahoe I'm working on. While the sales person was working on my qoute for the Tahoe engine, hementionedof a 383 with Dart heads sitting in the back that was ordered wrong and that the manager wanted to get rid of for $2500.I'm kinda intrested in this engine for my self because I've been thinking of stroking my olderChevy truck for torque purposes. I'd like to get your input if this is a good deal. The specs on the cam are not good for a truck but I'd like to knowwhat type of application it can be used for.
New Dart heads with 2.02/1.60 valves
Scatsteel crank
80-85block 2 pc. rear seal.
9.6 to 1 comp ratio
234 deg./244 deg. @ .050 dur, 306/310 deg. Adv. Dur., .488"/.510" lift, 114lobe sep.
I'm thinking of buying it because shipping parts to Hawaii can add up to alot. Any input is greatly appreciated especially on the Dart heads and cam specs.

Good price. Will they give a warranty? If so, take it.

That's the only catch. Sold as-is. Visually looking from the outside it seems the rebuilder was neat but I can't say the same about the internals. They're trying to unload it because the engine vendor won't take it back. I wish they'd allow me to remove the heads and a few bearing caps.

So what, a 383 with dart heads for that price is a steal. Find out about the pistons and crank, are they forged so you can spray? I'm looking into the same kind of short block for that same price, and worst case, you break it down and spec everything to make sure. I would get it asap.

It is a very good deal. I could not build one that cheap and survive in business.

Thanks guys. I've priced a long block about a year ago and shipping alone to Hawaii is $500 plus a $350 core which I would have to pay the return shipping in order to get my core deposit back. Even a stroker kit and the heads alone would be more than $2500.

My biggest concern is the cam. I know it won't be good in a truck but would like to know what type of buyer I can attract with the specs. I'm thinking 2000-6500 rpm range? I've only dealt with RV and mild cams so I don't know much about this one. If anyone can tell me what a buyer can expect from this cam I would greatly appreciate it.

Oh yea the other road block that's stopping me from buying it and is probably the toughest, it's called a wife...I've heard they put an end to alot of hobbies.

Pretty much anyone building a 3000 lb plus street/strip cruiser could use that cam.
