pontiac 455 to second gen camaro
Came across a possible good deal on a 455 pontiac with a th400 and was wondering how hard the swap would be. Mine already has the th400 in it so I'm pretty sure the tranny wouldn't be a problem unless there's a different bolting for the pontiac's th400. I'm rebuilding the 350 in mine right this second but the price on this with the transmission is less than my rebuild currently and I was thinking about putting this in and rebuilding the matching number engine and transmission at my leisure while still being able to drive it around. Any thoughts, comments and suggestions appreciated.

I think you need to switch engine mounts, its been a while but we switched a 455 for a chevy 400 once and had to change the mounts. You would need to measure the engine and the trans together to see if it is the same as far as the length goes. I would just consider buying the 455 if you get it cheap and resell it, they are getting harder to get at least around our area.

Get all the motor mounts and frame mountsfor a Firebird with a 455 for the same year as your Camaro. Get all the mounting brackets for P/S,ALT, and A/C with the motor if possible. You will have to move some wiring around also. The starter is on the drivers side, and the Alt. might be on a different side also. Fan shroud will be different, and headers if it don't have stock ex manifolds.
The bolt pattern on the trans bell housingis different from Pontiac to Chevy. I know a lot of guys still bolt them up with only 4 bolts, as the two top bolts are what are different, but I wouldn't do it. The cross member will be the same. Not sure about the drive shaft.
Not sure about the steering linkage on the 2nd gens, but I do know they are different on the 1st gens
