Default manual transmissions

I was wondering what manual 5 or 6 speed transmissions with overdrive can easily be swapped into second gens? A friend of mine is looking at a 75 that's missing the transmission and wants to put a newer manual tranny in. I know a decent amount about autos but not manuals worth a flip.

Thanks!

SpecterGT260> Yeah, I know. All the second gen manual trannys end at a 1 to 1 ratio. I'm asking more for new transmissions. The only one I know of of the top of my head is like a tremec 56 (I think that's it). I'm asking about newer trannies that provide the beauty of an overdrive gearing.

Like the Tremec 56 basically has two od gears for fifth (.74) and sixth (.5).

the t56 is the tranny that I run. as far as I know it only came in the 4th gens and in that case it will probably be a pain in the *** to mate up.

try that. they have a gm aftermarket which bolts up to your stock bellhousing. give them a call and see if you can mate up to your car

Thanks for the links Specter! This points out a lot of information that I was looking for concerning bolt patterns and what is needed.
