http://racingdownloads.com/racing_software-26.html Kind of interesting especially the early small block heads. DAZ28 originally posted this on the Sunset Dragstrip web site http://www.freepowerboards.com/sunse...rip/portal.php .

It is kind of interesting especially some the early stock chevy smallblock heads seem to be capable of the 400 hp mark I am looking for in the budget 350. I have a set of early 400 heads I think they are 493 castings whats odd about them is I think they have 1.94 intake and 1.6 exhaust?? I am going to get the dremmel out and clean up the ports replace the guides, valves and springs get a set of roller tip rockers. While I have the dremmel, is there something mild I can do as far as porting I have heard removing a little off the top of the port can help any suggestions???

You can trim down some casting around the valve guide, that is usually some restriction. The first inch or so in the bowl area is where ya get the most gains from what Iv'e been told. That includes the valves.

Ive read some on the subject boy it can get complicated in a hurry I think you would really need a flow bench to figure out if you are making a difference. I think I can put together a bench once I figure out the flow guage stuff might need to have a metal plate made to bolt on the bottom of the head, I can get a decent sized blower and motor and whatever pvc pipe and fittings from work and we use magnehelic and flow guages. Anyone know anybody who has tried to build a simple bench?
