Default first engine overhaul

Hello. Im 16 and im making plans for my first engine rebuild. I have a stock 200 hp 350 in my garage that im about to tear apart. I want to get about 350 to maybe 400 horsepower but I only have 3000 to spend. I was researching and decided to go with edlebrock performer aluminum heads, a new cam, amd I was also thinking about taking it to the speed shop and having them bore out the cylinders for me. I saw a 383 I saw a 383 with aluminum heads online for 6000 and it had about 400 hp. Do you think I can achieve the horsepower I want with the money I have? Or will I need to keep saving? Also does anyone have an other suggestions to how I can increase power? Maybe cheaper? Thanks for any help

For 3000 you can buy an engine ready to drop in with aluminum heads and intake. sbc crate motor | eBay
You'll learn more doing it yourself and can only guess at the horsepower unless you plan on buying dyno time.

Yea I was looking at crate motors but id rather gain the experience from doing it myself. Can I reach 350 hp by making it a 383, swapping the heads, and swapping the cam?

Boring is not going to give you anything near 383 cubes, it will take a stroker crank, which in turn requires different pistons.

Well yea I figured the stock pistons wouldn't work. I mean if I bore it out id obviously need different pistons to match. Id also need new rods and a crank like u said. Would I get a kit for that or would I have to get everything individually?

IMO, for a first time project a kit would be the way to go. If nothing else, all the parts should work toghether, which may not be the case if parts were sourced separately. The machine shop that is going to work on your block, assuming you selected a good one, is going to be an excellent source of informaton and assistance. Do not buy any parts until you consulted with them, and until they have inspected the block.
