Default Engine build kit

Has anyone seen a site or company with a disassembled engine that they sell as a kit; because I think its not that great of an idea to buy an engine, then take it apart and put new, more powerful parts into it... I don't have that much money to put into a project but would like something different. I know people put different cams and heads into engines and that often gives a good boost of performance, but I wanted to know if there was a company that offers just a block, pistons/rods, coils, etc, and all that miscellaneous hardware for a decent price that a person with a lot of time on their hands would like to construct themselves into a nice engine...let me know; thanks

Do what i did/doing now, get a block from a junkyard or whatever, send it to machine shop to get checked out, nothing really wrong with a used block as long as it doesnt have too many miles, plus thats why you get it checked at the machine shop. You could also buy a "new" block, but most of them are just old ones that have been remanufactured and go through the same process as what you would with your junkyard motor. Then you buy a "rotating assembly", then maincaps, camshaft, heads, pushrods, lifters, springs, rocker arms, manifolds, and etc... This way is ALLOT cheaper than buying a shortblock, longblock or a crate engine.

I would post more but i gotta go to work lol.

You can build a good 450 hp motor for about 6000 if you go this route, but you gotta shop around, not just call jegs an read a parts list to them
