burnt valve
Anyone ever had to fix a burnt valve? Took car into shop for engine light and rough running engine. The shop did a compression test and one of the cylinders was producing only 25psi. I would like to fix, but it's a '99 camaro. Don't want to put more into it then it's worth. Any suggestions or help would be much appreciated.
The only way to fix a burnt valve is to remove the head and regrind or replace the valve, and regrind or replace the valve seat. Chances are that the valve may be bent (over revving) rather than burned, but either way the head has to be removed. At this point it is a good idea to go ahead and do a complete valve job and check the head out. Also a possibility that the low compression is due to a blown head gasket, cracked head, or a damaged piston.
