Default 85 Wiring Harness

My buddy is going to pick up an 85 IROC-Z he just bought tomarrow and it needs some work. I was wondering how extensive is the job to replace the wiring harness? The owner says that this is the problem with the car. I'm kinda new to cars so would if anybody could tell me exactly what an engine harness is that would be great. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Basically The Wiring Harness Connects The Drive Train Parts ( Throttle Body Injection, Distributor, Transmission ETC.) To The Computer. It's fairly Simple To Install The Wiring Harness , Just Takes Some Time To Track Down Where All The Connections Go. I Might Would Be Leary About Him Saying That The Wiring Harness Is The Problem Tho . Unless It's Cut Or Burnt The Problem Is More Likely The Computer Itself. The Computer On A 85 Iroc Is Fairly Low To the Ground ( Behind The Passenger Floor Board Kick Panel On The Right ) If It Was Ever In Water 3/4 "s Way Over The Tires The Computer Got Flooded. But Ya Know I'm Just Rattling On. It May Vary Well Be The Harness. To Change The Wiring Harness Just Remove The Screws From The Right Side Plastic Plate On The Passenger Floor Board. You Will See The Computer Module. Unplug The Wires From The Computer And With Someone Under The Hood On The Passenger Side "GENTLY" Pulling Push The Plugs And Wires Through The Hole In The Body Once The Plugs And Wires Are Clear of The Hole It Will Come Right Out. The Trick Will Be To Feed Them Back Through The Hole On Installation. If You Can't Seem To Get It ... You Will Have To Remove The Passenger Side Front Fender The Harness And Body Holes Are Easily Accessable Then. Good Luck With That. Sick

Thank you so much. Thats a big help. The owner said that the previous owner had cut wires or something, did something screwy so I think it is the harness not the ECM. This might be a good deal, he talked him down to only $350 for an IROC thats pretty good, don't ya think?
