Default 450hp

The question is, how do I obtain a solid 450+ hp out of my 69 350? I don't want a turbo or giggle gas and I want it drivable. Maybe some proven combo's out there? Is it too much to ask for? Do I need to go with a different motor? What do you guys think?

I'm guessing you mean 450 crank hp. If so, it can be done many different ways. For you, it sounds like drivability is still important, so I'd suggest stroking it.

You can get 450 out of a 350, But you can use a milder cam with a 383, get the same horses, and more torque. If you've got the money, I say stroke it!

I was thinking to the rear wheels, but it sounds like that might be not very drivable. Maybe a better question is what is it going to take to have a low 12 second car and be streetable?

Where is the best place to get the parts to stroke it? What heads would you go with and carb?

Oh, if all you want is low 12's and drivability you can get that fairly easily.

But just out of curiosities sake, do you know how much your '69 weighs? And would you be willing to give up a little in the horsepower budget for some suspension/hooking up parts?

Cool, I guess I thought low 12's would hard......I have been into diesel performance and it takes alot of power to make a 7000lb truck fast. I need to change my thinking so I thank you for your input.

And yes I would love to make it hook, there is no reason to have all that power and go no where. What kind of set up would you go with? I have the ability to build alot of what I need.

Well, I'm honestly not the best guy to ask about specifics for a suspension setup. I'm currently in the process of planning my own!

But with a good, drag-oriented drag suspension, you could get low twelves with right around 380-400 to the wheels.

What he said... I know people with a little over 400 making 11's with proper setup with engine and suspension. It's not all about raw power... especially if you can't hook up and use the power correctly to propel you down the lane. Invest in a good rear, ladder bar setup (if you want to go that far), coil overs, whatever it takes to keep your rear straight and on the ground.
