Default 383 vs Lt4

In your opinions would you suggest that I upgrade my 350 to a 383 or should I buy the lt4 conversion kit? Which will give me the best output?

depends what heads/cam you use with the 383, but for sure, there's no replacement for displacement. a mild 383 setup would surpass the LT4 kit by far, so no matter what if you build the 383 right it will give you much higher output.

thanks shaker, also could you tell me what price range im looking at if i go with the stoker? would it be worth it to just go with the 396? Another question that ive been wondering about is about where my car idles at...right now it wont idle any lower that 1000, is that a problem?

i agree you will be much more happy with a stroker motor, but yea you can get stroker kits for around 700 dollars.

as for the idle issue, do you have a big cam in there? could be a number of things. is there any specific way it acts up? does it just full out die and shut off as soon as it hits under 1000? or does it putter and slowly stall?

no no it runs fine, but i mean ive driven other cars and they idle much lower like in the 500's, i was just wondering if it was supposed to idle up there, other than that there is nothing wrong with it. any idea where i can where i can get a look at these stroker kits? also is this something that i could personally install or am i looking at installation fees? thanks!

if you have a manual tranny, 800-1000 rpm is a good range just to make takeoffs easy. if its an automatic 600-800 is a good range. any lower and it will load up with carbon.

In essence, a stroker kit amounts to a full overhaul and using a stroker crank, and appropriate pistons. If you want to hang on to your LT1 you can get a stroker kit for it, but you will have to tune the PCM, and upgrade the Fuel Injection or it won't run too well. If you have rebuilt an engine before, or you have a knowledgeable person to guide you, you can do it. Just keep in mind that the engine has to come out of the car, and pulling the engine out of a 4th gen Camaro can get pretty interesting.
