LS1 Camaros are decently cheap nowadays... and it'll probably be easier to find a manual LS1 vs, swap out the auto 3.8.

Its always easier to just seel what you have and get a new one with what you want in it. Although, it would make for a fun project.

Sell and buy a LS1 car. Save your self a lot of time, pain, and money.

What if he wants to experience the pain and time and money?

Nah, just kidding. Just sell the 3.8 and get yourself an LS1 camaro (although, a plus side to dropping in a V8 into your V6 is that your insurance will stay the same...and you'll have yourself a sleeper).

Makes you wonder though- if you're going to gothrough all that effort and expense, wouldn't it be better to swap in something more: LS2/3, LSX, truck 6L iron block (hello boost?)... ?

Isn't that called insurance fraud?

so you want to double your expense by going ls2/3? all in all its a MUCH better idea to buy an ls1 car complete...it'll save you money in the end

no. insurance typically does not ask you about your powertrain because its encoded in the VIN. they set their own rates as they see fit within the rules they laid down. they run the VIN, it says v6, you get v6 rates. end of story.

insurance fraud is when you purposefully destroy something and/or try to make a claim that you dont deserve in order to collect cash.

My point was that if he wanted to spend that kind of money doing the swap, then it might be worthwhile (in $-per-hp terms) to go for a newer motor than the LS1.
