Just thought I would post an update.

I took my hair dryer to it and that paired with a plastic putty knife I was able to scrap all the old vinyl letters off.

I used some wd-40 and a mr. clean magic sponge on the left over adhesive and it came right off.

Surprisingly there is very little fading and unless you have your face right in the grill you can't see where the letters were.

Thanks for the advice!

I wonder if that would work on the body. The original owner of my car I just bought put a "Performance" sticker next to the rear Z28 badge and the guy I bought the car from (yes, I am only the third owner would rather be the original owner but oh well) was afraid to remove it and damage the car. The sticker is really old. The edges are all cracking and I wish I could remove it.

Other than what was mentioned in this thread, are there any other suggestions?

When I did mine I put my hairdryer on the lowest setting and never left it in one place for long because I didn't want to warp the plastic. If you are worried about damaging the finish with the putty knife go to the store and back in where the nail stuff is they sell cuticle pushers called orange wood sticks. The wood is very very soft and will give and break before any scratches happen. They are small so it might take a bit longer to scrap off the letters.

What I did what hold the hair dryer to the vinyl lettering and warm it up then used the putty knife and slowly ran it along the letters. They peeled right off. Mine were pretty old too. MY car is 10 years old and the previous owner was the original owner and he put them on there just after he got the car. It does leave a sticky residue, but with some wd-40 and a mr clean sponge it comes right off.

The heat of the hairdryer softens the vinyl pretty quickly making it a cinch to scrape it off.
