Removing Vinyl Striping
Hey guys a little bit of background info on my car. I have a Black '02 V6 with grey rally stripes ( vinyl... ick ). I want to get rid of them but I'm worried about people being able to notice that they used to be on there. Is there anything I can do to get rid of the striping without having a fade spot? If I go the paint route how much would it run me to get the trunk lid, spoiler, roof ( t-tops so tiny roof ), hood, and front bumper painted? ( good quality matching paint )

to remove the strips i know of two ways one is with some kind of rubber wheel on a drill i dont know what it is called and the other is with a heat gun and what looks like a plastic razor blades i have used both at the body shop i used to work at and like the heat gun more as for seeing the fade marks u can try and buff the car after getting the strips off that might work but as for painting it counts on the shop doing the work i had some quote me any wheres from 1000 to 5000 for my car

Thats not bad, I wonder what they'd charge to match the paint. I had my driver door and rear quarter painted recently. It ran my insurance a little over $900, my girlfriends ex egg'd my car...

I agree with the heat gun working well.. I've heard a hair dryer can be used also if a heat gun isn't available. You might end up lucky and the marks left from the vinyl will buff (or sand and buff) out, but honestly I've sent many panels to be painted due to defects left over after removal of pinstripes, racing stripes, dealer decals, etc. This is why I'm not a fan of vinyl decals of any kind on the paint.

At work I use an astro pneumatic eraser, which I'm guessing is the same or similar to what you suggested. http://www.amazon.com/Eraser-Amber-E...744745&sr=1-12
