Default Best Cloth

Im sort of new to washing cars and when I first got it I went out and bought a rag, some car washing soap, tar and bug remover, and wax just to clean it up when I have some free time. Now my rag is really dirty and disgusting and im afraid to use it on my car. Im trying to find a new one but I dont know where to look. From your experiences, what's the best shammy, cloth, etc.to wash a car with. I also need some kind of towel for drying

Target has mircofiber washing mitts for about $5. If you go to Costco you can get a 36 pack of microfiber cloths for about $15. For getting most of the water off, the California Water Blade works great. You can get that from Target as well.

I've always had best luck with keeping the whole car wet and not letting it dry while I'm hand washing it and then fly down the highway to dry it off, it usually drys the whole car besides the rear bumper... hit it with a terry or microfiber cloth then hit the whole car with quick detailer. Exceptional shine. (provided it's been waxed in the not so distant past)

DO NOT USE TERRY CLOTHS!! they scratch your paint.

Microfiber is good for windows and dusting... nothing else.

Go to a auto parts store ( autozone, orielley, places like that) and get sponges with DEEP pockets in them. Get a good soap as well. DO NOT USE DISH SOAP!! this takes off wax everytime you wash useing it. Meguires, blue coral, turtle wax, they all have them. its not hard to find and its fairly cheap.

As slick said, keep the car wet. So one panel at a time on hot days, if the soap dries while its on the car it will leave spots and youll have a hell of a time getting them back off. So do a panel at a time and go over the whole thing several times with very sudzy water. Remember, suds are your friend when you wash a car!! Do a panel and move on to the next, but remember to keep the whole car wet the whole time. Do it in the shade if you can, and the cooler your car is the better. so if you just got home. pop the hood and let it air out for an hour or more to help it cool. The extra heat is just gona help the water dry faster and like i said, thats bad. When you have done the whole car, you can dry it. Use a genuine lamb skin chamios ( spelling, sounds like shamie) for best results. I use old bathroom towels, but my paints in pretty bad shape so it dosent matter. During drying you may use a spray on wax as you dry deal if you wish, but you may need to go back over it with a towel to get streaks if you use to much. OR, afterwards you can use a microfiber towel ( i know i know..) and a quick detailer and do panel at a time again.

Also, if you use anything other than the same soap you use to clean your car to clean your wheels ( in other words if you use a cleaner) do that first thing to get any resedue off the paint.

One more thing, keep any and all things related to washing cars ONLY FOR CARS. dont use the towels or buckets for cleaning your greasy hands or anything. The grease and oil stays in the bucket and towels. thus. going into your car.

Good luck.
