Why does my fuel pump shut off when I turn my car on?
1990 camaro rs, fi 305 was swapped for a carb. 350, my car kept dying so I hooked up a fuel pressure gauge directly to the fuel line with the 2 sec. prime it would bump up from 0 to 8 psi, then when I turn the car on the pressure would just slowly drop to 0 then die. I listened to the gas tank through a funnel and could hear the fuel pump running with the 2 sec. prime but I couldn't hear it run when the car was on. I already replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter and it's still doing the same thing as it did with the origional pump and filter. I heard there is a red wire near the fire wall that I can hook up to a 12v battery source and that would auto. run the fuel pump is this true, what does it look like? Any other ideas?

you can chalk it up to another half *** job done. carbs are designed to run with a mechanical pump with a tank and lines free of electric pumps. i have seen it hundreds of times. people will tell it will work fine halfassing the fuel system but, you always have problems down the rode. want to fix it for good? find a older mechanical style tank and install a mechanical pump. if you want to half *** it again ... the fuel tank wirng exits the passenger compartment to the rear behind the back seat. thats the closet point you can get without getting under it and removing the tank. test your wiring there then work your way to the relay. here's a photo of the relays.
