Default Start , No start

My 1997 Camaro convertible has a starting problem. Sometimes it will start ,sometimes it wont. Never know when it will happen. Battery and starter are fine. Someone told me it could be in factory security system. Any ideas ? I'm afraid to shut it off if it does start. Can't leave it running all of the time Please help.

1. No start - engine cranks over, but no run?
2. No start - engine does not crank over by starter motor?

If #2, VATS socket in column may not be reading the key chip. check reading of chip at column connector by disconnecting and measure ohms of the two thin white wires going up into column.
No read, bad socket. Steering wheel needs removed and socket replaced. They can be gotten from a GM dealer.

Could also be your fuel pump is on it's way out, not uncommon at all. Next time this happens, give it a shot of starting fluid into the throttle body. If she fires right up, you have a fuel supply problem.

If VATS doesn't read the key chip, no crank.
