Every fourth gen owner goes through this at least once, and now its my turn. So rather than just wire up a switch so i can turn them on and off from the cab, what part typically goes bad? I know its a stupid question, but I'm starting to get a little rusty on camaros.

Check the relays for the fans first, if its not the relays then replace the motors

The way it works. The ECT sesnsor sends a temp signal to the PCM. The PCM deides if the fans are needed or not, and cotrols the fan relays to apply or remove power to the fans. Possible problems are:
Fan motors
Fan relays
Fan fuses
ECT sensor
Wiring, electrical connectors, grounds.
If car overheats at highway speed, check that the front air dam is still there.
