4L60E use into a non-ECM vehicle
I recently removed a good running 4L60E and was intrested in using it in a older non-computer controlled vehicle. I know that the easiest way is to purchase a trans controller but I was wondering if I could hook up the original ECM for the 4L60Ebutnot theEFI side? Would the ECM still need fuel and ignition signals to run the trans? The reason I ask is that the controller isn't cheap and my current Carburetor and HEI distributor is fairly new but I still wanted the benefit ofhaving an overdrive trans. I'm sure using a 700R would be even easier butthe 4Lis on hand, free and is known to be good. Thanks for any replies.
The PCM that comes with the 4L60e looks at various engine sensors to determine when and how the gears are shifted. Even if your engine has all those sensors the PCM will have to be reprogrammed to work properly. You will be much better off with the user programmable stand alone controller, and cheaper in the long run.
Pete if i did go back and aquired the original engine that mated to this a/trans and got the complete harness, what would I need to make the trans run a cable operated speedo? Do I use a drive gear and ext. tail housing from a 700R4?
Thanks for any replies

The electronic transmissionhas a VSS (vehicle speed sensor) mounted in the same place where the spedometer drive goes. The PCM or cotroller need the input from the VSS in order to know when to shift gears, which leaves you without a spedometer drive.
