Default Stock cd player quit

I have a 1997 Camaro SS, and the stock delco head unit. The other day it started playing CD's with poor quality. Sounded like a radio with barely any reception, then it just quit playing cd's. Radio works fine. Just wonderin if anyone had any ideas......

well, it could be that your laser went out.. I'm not sure how common that is in delco cd players, but its a possibility. You could try cleaning it with some air dusters or one of those cleaning cd's, but if neither work i would say there is probably something wrong with it..
You could always find a stock replacement on ebay or something if your still looking for stock, if not, there are some aftermarket cd players that won't cost you a fortune that would do the job. Do you have the monsoon system?

This is prolly a stupid question, but how can you tell if you have the monsoon system?? It has an aftermarket sub that my cousin put in.

if it's the monsoon system you should have 2 speakers in your hatch.. like on the panel that covers your spare tire, but on both sides... If you have to get another one, are you gonna go stock or aftermarket?

Well then I have the monsoon system. I will go stock. I am assuming that if I go aftermarket I would have to get an amp to push my speakers as well as the stock??

usually its alot more expensive to repair the bose-delco/Monsoon systems since both are premium sound systems. (Nothing really beats Bose or Monsoon as far as quality goes). Youd be better off getting a new head unit and wiring it to your stock speakers (thats what i did and it works/sounds great)

Eh, i wouldnt trust Ebay when buying a sound system.. im skeptical even of buying car parts off of it. You run alot of risks buying second hand equipment on anything.

Anyone have anygood suggestions on head units. I've heard alpine is good, but a bit pricey. Just want something that can push the speakers, MP3 capable, and has a sub output.
