Default how to separate the sgs and foglight switches from the coverup panel while taking out the radio

i have a 97 maro with the stock am/fm/cd player, and im trying to take the radio out so i can find a short with one of my wires. does anyone know if, when you snap off the dash cover over the air controls and the radio, if you remove the foglight and sgs switches with your bare hands or with some kind of tool? i tried pulling it out with my hands, couldnt do it, maybe i'm not pulling hard enough, or can i use something that would make this easier?
