Default Box problems

I've gotta 89 RS. I bought a Kicker Solobaric L7 8" Sub. Well, the problem is, i want a ported box for it, and all the local shops want like $200 and up to build me one. Blah. I want to build one myself but don't know how to calculate the dimensions for sub displacement, port size and displacement, etc. Does anyone have a solo 8 inna ported box in their 3rd Gen.? If so, could you give me the dimensions so I can attempt to build one? Right now I've got it inna sealed box n granted, it thumps. But I've just been told ported boxes hit harder. Thanks

Default RE: Box problems

ported box will play louder at the frequency they are tuned too, generally play lower bass better. Sealed box will give you more punch. You should be able to either look on the kicker web site for box specs or in your owners manuel if you have it. Too figure out box volume just take H x W x D / 1728. That will give you internal cubic foot. Your port size and length all depends on what frequency you want to be tuned at, generally around 40hz give or take a few is good place to start. Speaker displacement will be on your spec sheet. Check with kicker they should have recommendations to go with for the port figures.
