Go to Autozone,Wal-mart etc and buy a factory wiring harness adapter. They make them for about every car.It plugs directly into the factory plugs. That is if you still have the factory plugs left.
Often the wire harness supplied at walmart doesn't fit, even though it says it will. There are 2 harnesses, try your local Best Buy, or electronics retail store and by a harness from the installation department. Or try crutchfield.com. I also installed an after-market stero in my 89 RS.
yep, two different harnesses, and 89 is right in the years where it could be either one. One has three seperate plugs, a blue one, white one and black, then it will have another 2 pin white connector. THe other one is generally one peice but maybe three, the pins are much smaller and it will not have the smaller 2 conductor plug seperate. THe metra number is either 70-1677-1 for the older plug or 70-1858 for the newer style plug. The older style plugs are much bigger the the new style.
From 73-91 they should be the same plug. As you said 02, some had a 3 plug connector and others had a sinlge plug, but, the factory stereos will interchange with either style plug, I don't mean to come off like I'm ****'n in your wheaties 02, but in my case I guess the radios were the same only one was the single plug and the other was the tripple. now in mid to late 91 GM changed the connector so some late 91 up use the newer adapter. I custom build my own stereo wireing harnesses so I only need the factory one for power and ground.
