Question Winter Wheels & Tires?

So I am in the market for winter only rims and tires.

Anyone seen steel rims in this size? So far I have only found aluminum and am looking at:

225/55/16
American Racking Maverick silver
Hancook i*cept evo

Anyone have any better suggestions? Some of the better tires are not available in the sizes we need. The Hancooks above seem to be the best available rated winter tire for these car from what fits cross-referenced with the best rated per Consumer Reports latest winter tire buying guide.

any particular reason you're looking for steelies rather than aluminum wheels? Otherwise I'd say just pick up a set of cheap salad shooters or starfish off craigslist.

^ Yea, well that's what I ended up doing, aluminum 16" winter wheels (the black is duplicolor painted, silver lip is stock natural color, all clear-coated), pic attached, paid $150 for the set, not bad.

Just ordered my Hankook I*Cept Evo W310 225/55R16 XL 99V VSB winter tires ($520/set mounted/balanced via Discount Tire) -- seem to be the best all around winter option available for 4th Gens, even come with a 40k mi. tread wear warranty! They placed pretty well in Consumer Reports winter tire review at 60 of 100, with the highest rated winter tire only got a 62 of 100 and highest winter high performance only got a 66 of 100 rating.

Let me know how those work for you. I bought a pair of SnowTrakkers from Wal-mart for the rears and they have worked fine in the mountains of PA. Gonna get a pair for the front too though so I can actually steer the car this year.

I've never seen snowflakes painted like that, I like it. Do you have them installed on the car yet? I'd like to see how they look.

Never heard of those before, and don't see them in Consumer Reports' ratings -- perhaps they did not rate those... Looks like Pacemark tires are made by Goodyear.

Thanks -- me too, at least it's not the same old, same old. Not yet, tires are ordered, should arrive in a few days.
