Default Remove or Modify Bumper Support

I am looking for ideas on ways to either remove the front bumper support or modify it in such a way to reduce as much weight as possible.

If you have done this, would you mind sharing your ideas?

Thank you.

well the front bumper cover is fiberglass and the only thing lighter than that would probably be carbon fiber. theres not really much to cut out without it looking bad.

I have seen where the license plate normally would sit they cut out the bottom lip out but it didnt look to good in my opinion

He's talking about the steel bar that sits behind the bumper cover. There is the option of going with a chromoly piece, if you can find any one that makes one still. I'd reduce weight elsewhere. You compromise the safety of the car if you touch the bumper areas. They are meant to crumple and absorb the impact of a front end collision. For a street car, this is crucial. I don't believe they weigh much more than 15 lbs. I'll check mine when I get the chance since it's off the car.

Other areas the car can lose weight that don't effect safety:

A/C and Heating unit
Rubber matting under carpet and dash area
Removal of rear seats
Power antenna if so equipped
Spare tire (keep if you make long trips often or carry Fix-A-Flat)
Padding under rear carpet area
Swap to non-power seats
Swap suspension components to tubular steel or chromoly
Aftermarket aluminum wheels

These are just ones I can think of off the top of my head or I've done. Here's a more detailed list from LS1Tech.

That metal piece supports the upper part of the urethane bumper cover.
The crash absorbing portion are the thick honeycomb chunks mounted to the nose of the body. You don't want to remove or mess with these if you value yourself or your car..
