plugs are gotten easier form under the car, once you get headers you can get them all form the top no problems.

Your logic does not work. Caked on oil on the outside of the valve cover indicates and oil leak that was not repaired. Caked on oil inside the valve cover indicates a lack of oil changes but still does not point to valves any more then rings.

If the inside of the valve covers have so much sludge in them that oil can not drain back to the oil pan then that would cause burning oil. This takes years of poor maintenance to happen. It takes a lot to surprise me and I would be surprised if a engine that poorly maintain would last until 200K

Sorry my post is so far late lol, (Just looking though my old threads) I yanked that old junker out and swapped for a Series III. When I pulled the valve covers off there was like 1.5" of sludge across all of the rockers. Now that I look back on all the stuff that went wrong with the motor I think The misfire issue was due to a bad spark plug wire, cause the electrode on the end was all torn apart. I'm also pretty sure the other issue i had was a clogged pcv valve. Cause I pulled the intake off and it was just covered in oil. I think it was sucking oil up though the pcv valve and dumping it into the intake causing it to burn the oil. Anyway those are my thoughts. I'm glad I did it anyway, 200k miles it was bound to blow up soon especially with the way I drive, haha.

Are head gaskets a job worth doing if that's what it turns up to be, on an old car w/ high mileage, or another engine more logical.

if you run engine with antifreeze in the oil its best with a 3.8 to replace with a low milage used 3.8. antifreeze turns to acid and eats bearings.

Thanks Craby, gonna check in with the garage to see how much interest they have to replace the motor. Even better if I can get hands on a portable lift to do myself, not sure if possible, happy to try it tho.
