Default Wideband 02 help

Hey guys I am trying to get a wideband oxygen sensor for my 2001 3.8L camaro. Anybody have any information for me about maybe what are the best ones to use or what you are using? Thank you for the help.

How do you plan to use it? Relacing the stock O2 sensor with a wide band one is not going to work too well as the PCM has no idea what to use the additinal data for. Cars that use wide band O2s are are especially tuned for them. If you want to use the wideband to drive an A/F meter, then you need to add another bung in the exhaust near to the one for the stock O2, and screw the wide band into it and wire it to the meter.

Well I am having trouble passing emissions cuz I keep getting a p0420 code. I have replaced the catalytic converter twice and it still comes( I ofcourse cleared the code both times). A mechanic suggested to me to use a wideband o2 on my post o2 bung and then program it into tricking the ecu so it won't turn on the code. Does this at all sound right? I am not too familiar with it

make sure you have no exhaust leaks. is the muffler old and did the original cat go to pieces on you? if so muffler could be plugged. did you change the 02 sensors? failing or fouled 02 sensor could be it. is the car a cali emissions car? if so you may have to get a cali compiant cat.

Well I did have a leak at the manifold. Burned up a gasket but that has been fixed. This is not a Cali car so I'm good there but I only changed out 1 o2 sensor. I had a local guy weld do my cat back for me and welded it all up. Saying that, I assume that the muffler is brand new. But I am not ruling out that the muffler could be clogged.

sometimes with a plugged muffler or cat you can hear a hissing sorta noise from the exhaust. you can check the 02 sensors to see if they are fouled. turn all black, can clean using torch, blue flame. i use the acetylene. dont get em so hot it melts the sensor wires at the other end.

Ok ima have to check the muffler and see if I hear that. Is it a soft hiss or would it be something I would notice right away
