Alot of people just sand the ribs off like you said. While I don't know what frees up more power, it wouldn't be that much differenceanyways.

 

Just shave out the baffles yourself, its really easy with pliers. They'll just pop right off.
Only buy a lid if it comes with the piece that directly connects to the throttle body, I have yet to find that part for sale by itself =(
If you're still set on buying one, get it from ebay, I'm sure you could save a bit.

 

i just snaped the ribs off my lid. took about 5 minutes. thanks for the tips guys
