I used to think used tires were ridiculous but then I was hit with needing tires real bad one time when I was really broke. I learned quick you can get good tires cheap if you buy them used. I have not bought a new tire in over ten years. Check Craigslist. I have bought two sets from there. Then try some of the tire stores in the rougher parts of town. I have bought multiple sets from places that looked way less than upstanding but I actually got good tires cheap
I actually checked my local craigslist last night, but no luck. It was mostly people selling truck tires. There was a set of brand new Toyo 255/50/16 but they were drag radials and 400 bucks. If I had the 400 on hand I would jump on it, but I'm not sure how well the drag radials last anyway. Right now I'm working with $200. I may have to go with 2 new tires now and two later.

The highest I had thought about was 255. I bet 265 gets some killer traction. Do you run 265 on the rear and smaller in the front?

I went ahead and ordered 2 Kumho Ecsta AST 245/50/16 from TireBuyer.com. Total was $186.22. Gonna put these on the rear and the two best 235/55's on the front. Will that make the car drive funny? I've always hear that different size tires will make the car drive funny.

We have a friend who owns a tire/brake shop here and he told me to move the older ones to the front and new on the back. I can't remember what is on ours but my car has 4 of the same and not what is recommended for the car. My son's has 2 of one size and 2 of another and neither of them are whats on the car's door panel.

We went to walmart a few months ago and was gonna get them to put 2 tires on the rear for us and balance them. They wouldn't do it because first of all, they didn't sell the tires but he told me that there were 2 different size tires on that car and neither of them is what is recommended for the car. He said that they could only put what is recommended but didn't sell them anyway. Now that car does ride a lot more rougher than mine does so I have always contributed it to the fact that it has 2 different sizes.

Putting the 55 series tires in front and the 50 series tires in back is going to make your front end tilt up. I have two different size tires on a 86 cutlass and you can see the the difference.

I went out and looked at mine. On my car in my siggie, it has 4 245/50/16. Our silver one (son drives it and he's gone to school has the 245/50/16 on the rear and the fronts are different. The recommended on the car are 235/55/16 and its the middle of whatever is on his front and the 245/50/16 on the back. He plans on spending some of his graduation money on some tires and he's jealous of my Flowmaster work too. (lol)

Just so you know walmart will not always install tires that aren't recommended for your car as a liability issue. If something goes wrong with your car because of your tires they don't want to be held responsible for it so they install factory recommended tires only. In Canada we have a canadian tire and they are the sameway as walmart. I tried getting studded tires for my rears in the winter and they wouldn't do it as it's not the same as what I have in the front. They also said it provides to much traction. My mechanic friend did it with out question and laughed at what Canadian tire said.

Oh and having a 55 in the front and a 50 in the back won't be to bad as it's only a 5 cm difference. When you start going more then that it gets bad. Plus it's not awd or a 4x4 so your not going to do drive train damage from uneven tire rpm.

Well I looked at the tires on the silver car. The fronts are 215/65/16 and backs are 245/50/16. GM lists the 215's as an alternate for it. I think we'll get 2 of them to replace the worse ones and then it will have all 4 of the same size for a while.
