V6-V8 swap: How to
#102
Who wouldn't want to do that? You get the higher insurance rates of the v8 car, and slightly better gas mileage with the v6.

Hahahahahaha. Beter be a v6 diesel engine going in. I've always wanted v8 insurance for my v6. Lmao.

now keep in mind this is a RS v6 to built TPI V8 swap. The TPI Engine came out of my 85 F-Body IROC that i totaled when a guy ran a stop sign and my new camaro is a 1992 RS 25th Anniversery Edition red. i pulled the engine and whole wiring harness that was under hood i am using my T5 tranmission i managed to use a 87 trans am bellhousing for my trans... anyways like i said the thing is ready to run i have tested all circuits and found three major/minor issues 1)my acc circuit blows a fuse everytime i put one in it (it runs the dome light, horn relay and a few other things i think (my rs is all manual windows ect no power anything(i like it this way less crap to break) 2) my fuel pump relay is not clicking over nor does it have power(so i havent been able to test my fuel pump on wether or not i need a new one)finally the third problem i have is that my heater fan is not working via the control panel(took out a/c dont need it i got windows) just need the heat for winter .
keep in mind i AM using the 92 wiring harness inside the car but i AM using the 85 Wiring harness under the hood along with 85 ECM) any comments of guidence would be greatly appreciated
thanks

What year is your RS? ECMs and PCMs do not do the same thing. What you are doing is not possible atleast in the sense of getting everthing to work. First thing the PCM does is give the thumbs up to the anti theft system. You think your 85 ECM can handle that? next it will fire your Anti lock brake system and depending on the year the Body control modual. (that is almost everything inside the car). Let also not forget that the PCM controls everything in your dash, not a single gage/light is going to work. How in the world did you get this far and know know any of this?????
You are going to have to create a complete new wiring harness and build a new gage cluster for the car just like you would if you would have swapped in a old carb 350.

Maybe if you have a 93 you could get somethings to work, 93 does not have a PCM. In 94 GM switch to the OBD1 system. They switched to OBD2 in 96. I assume since you said it was a RS its a 96 up since 96 was the first 4th gen RS. I am wondering why you did not just put a 3.8 back in. Its is the cheapest most common motor on the planet and its just as powerful as a mid 80s 305

OK you may want to move over to he 3rd gen section since you are working on 3rd gen cars. This is the 4th gen section and these cars are almost 100% different. You would not have been able to fit a TPI engine under the dash of the 4th gens anyway.
Now I dont know the 3rd gens the way I do the 4th gens but if I were you I would make sure that ALL your plugs are plugged into the right sockets and that your wires are the right ones. Schematics are key here. Some wires change color after they go through a plug or firewall connection. That is the best advise I can give with out having your car right in front of me.
All 3rd gens had an ECU. The PCM was not available until 94 so dont worry about that.
