I think that people think that the 5.3L and the LS1 are the same engine configuration since some of the parts are interchangable. Well some parts are but not everything, and the bock and heads are different enough that this will not be an easy swap.

What does that have to with what were originally discussing here? The swap is possible. There are K-members that come with LS motor mounts that bolt right in. You can swap out the v6 gauge cluster for the v8 with a little wiring modification. Hell you can even order custom wiring harnesses for just about anything now. You gotta look for it, yes, but it's out there.

Yes Remy the swap is possible, I know I have a friend that has done the swap. There is more to the swap then some minor gauge rewiring, and you will spend about as much for a custom harness as you would for the totaled car you need to make the swap complete. The newer PCM will not interface with the older ABS units, not all brake systems were the same, the heater boxes in the 93-96 cars are not the same as the 97-02, the BCMs change every year from 93-96, and a little from 97-02. All these things need to be working together for everything to be happy. But if you dont mind systems not functioning correctly and your dash looking like a X-mas tree then do the swap with out a complete doner car.

So how about a v8 to v6 swap. If i'm understanding this right, I can just get a couple custom wiring harnesses?

who wouldnt want to do a v8 to v6 conversion with a gutted cat, it is between that or dropping in a hybrid 4 cylinder from a prius. All i need to do is order a few custom wiring harnesses right?

Yeah, but the Prius requires fiber optics for the harness.
