I love the comments in this thread about what a waste of time it is to beef-up a V6! Well, it's not!

I got a V6 because I couldn't find a standard Z28 that was in decent condition. And where I am they are asking 8k for a Z28 automatic with high mileage and rough shape. Some of you take for granted that Z28 Camaors in your area are not expensive and easy to find. It's not my case unfortunately.

So, I'm rebuilding a 3.4L over the winter, putting in a posi rear end, new driveshaft, and maybe a supercharger. I already have a stage-II clutch and headers. So, you if you think this is a waste of time then that's your opinion. A rebuilt 3.4L with a supercharger will put out as much if not more power than an LT1. This is what I like to do and it's my hobby. Too bad people can't respect you for doing the work yourself and taking on a project to actually make something instead of just going out, spending money on another car and calling it a day. I am building something I can look at and be proud of!

I see where you're coming from and I've seen 3.4's that'll out do a LT1 any day. It's more appealing to see that than a stock Z28 in your driveway. What we're all considering is the best thing to do in terms of ease. It'll take time and a lot of money to make a 3.4 as fast as a Z28. When you could just buy a Z28 and then later mod it up to be way faster than just about anything else on the road. But yes I agree having a 3.4 that'll outrun a Z28 would be an amazing feeling rather than just having a stock Z28.

you would figure that the 3.8 is close to the gn 3.8 so there would be alot of turbo parts around for them but I'm wrong

Can I get some links for RWD 3.4 cars that will out run a LT1 please? I have a v6 and I love it but it is not in any way shape or form cost effective to build a V6 thinking it will keep up with a V8. I picked up a Lt1 V8 6 speed for 1500 witha blown motor. I will have about 3K to 3.5K in the completely project (including the car). It should be about 400 HP at the crank based on the research I have done. I would love to see a 3.4 near 300 HP for $3500 not including the car.

Gorn, you are right. I have looked into it and rebuilding my engine along with a Suprecharger is going to cost me $6500.00.

As I said previously it's hard to find V8s here in good condition. I have an office in NC and will be ging thee in the spring to get a new car that's a V8. If I can affod it, I want a Pontiac GTO with the LS2. If not, I've seen Camaro SS's with te LS1 for $7k and up.
