Trouble with shifter in an automatic
I have a quick question. About a month ago I bought a '95 Camaro with a 3.4 and an automatic in it. The car itself has about 150k on it, but the motor was replaced and has approx. 30k on it. My question is this... Does anyone know why it would take using a lot of pressure (using both hands) to depress the button on the shifter to get the car to go out of park? Reverse, Neutral, Drive, Low, and Park are all lining up with the shifter correctly, but it takes two men and a boy to push the button down to get it out of park and it is driving me crazy. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Thanks.

u could try adjusting the cable on the tranny. sounds like its goin into park to far or not far enough and is jamming or pushing against the release so not to let it release easily. could also be something inside the shifter itself jamming the button. mine has a staple looking thing on the front of the shifter **** u pull out to get the **** off. i think the 95 has a screw or,,, something different anyways. could also pull the center console up and see if theres gummy bears in the linkage there. i think thats where the heart of the button release is and could just need some lube. anyways theres some ideas for ya. hope u find it.

95's do have that staple-looking thing that craby was talking about. Just pop it out with a flathead screwdriver and the shift **** will slide straight off. The shifter gate also pops out and comes off quite easily with the **** already off. If you need to take off the rest of the console, there's I believe 3 screws that hold it down (one in the console, one in the cupholder, and one in the back of the cubby hole), and you'll have to remove the bezel around the stereo to get it off.

parking paw worn out inside trans? Getting ready to lose park? Check the detent lever next time you change the trans fluid.
