Default Timing ?

On a 3.8 engine, are the only sensors that affect timing the crank position sensor and camshaft sensor? Also, is there another location to connect a oil pressure gauge to verify the accuracy of the guage in the dash?

The Crank Position Sensor is used for ignition timing, but does not control it. All it does is to send pulses to the PCM telling it the location of the crankshaft as it rotates. The PCM adjusts the timing using the pulses as a reference point. The Cam Position Sensor does the same thing for fuel injector timing.

The intake air pressure sensor will effect timing. Cam sensor is used as who is in line to fire next once the key fob is turned off. Cam sensor shows it is on said stroke [matching cam position] and which cylinder fires next. Crank sensor says I am spinning, so there is one more advance curve from start up to idle to highway speed.
You set the A/C fan on, the ignition momentarily retards for the compressor action coming on and slowing down the rpm for a split second is a split second retard you can't even feel.

Plumb a T-fitting out of the oil sending unit. Reinstall the oil light unit, install your pressure line to the gauge on the dash or wherever you install the oil pressure gauge.

Thanks . I changed coil packs and fuel filter and still had misfire. Plugs, wires and egr valve were installed before putting engine back in car. Still misfired something terrible. I replaced the cam position sensor and now it is running smooth. I was hoping it would not be the crank position sensor. Going to drive it down and get the codes scanned to see why the SES light is on. Before changing the cam sensor, it would not even pull itself.
