Default Stereo shuts off sporadically

So heres the story i was given a 2000 camaro v6 fir my 16th birthday and after driving the car for a while the stereo will shut off and come back on later, this sometimes happens for a few seconds sometimes it takes a couple minutes. I swapped out decks and it did the same thing, except this time it only flashed momentarily. I tried to fix the problem by checking the ground and when i tested the power it read 12 volts while i had the negative lead on the ground wire. My constant is fine but i still think it may be the ground. Is there a way to check this? Also another theory i have is it may be a bad wire in the ignition. I still have in the deck i swapped for and i'll drive it for the next couple days and see how it goes but can you guys please help me with this annoying problem?

BC hit the nail on the head. Follow the linky he posted and it will guide you on how to fix this issue. I have repaired several of these BCMs and solved the same problem you are having.

The directions are on the BCM post. You just have to remove the lower trim under the dash. To get the BCM out you just have to wiggle and shimmy the thing out. It is not easy to remove, much easier to install.
