i have a 95 3.4l..its been starting up rough usually taking three times to turn over. i needed a new egr valve and figured that might solve my problem if it were stuck open.. that may be why i was having problems.. changed it and it still takes 2-3 tries to start it, on occasion it will rev up to 2k rpms on its own..im at a loss.. can anyone help?

Check the fuel pressure as you go to start up. There may be an internal leak in the system, such as a leaky injector, bad pressure regulator, or bad fuel pump check valve, and the fuel pump has to prime the system to get the pressure up. You can also force the system to prime by turning the ignition key ON & OFF several times, about 2 seconds apart, without trying to start the car. Immediately after this, try to start the engine. If it starts on the first try, you now know that the system is leaking.

Yes, I had the same result, but will try it a few more times to validate -- then the fun part of troubleshooting which is the specific issue and fixing...
