A box of bandaides and a few cold beers! Labeling all wiring connections before disconnecting makes it easier to put back together. Good luck. Not sure if you have to use angle torque tool for the heads or not but it is not easy to do on some of the head bolts.

I did a 3.8 not long ago. The worse part of it all was getting the spark plugs back in and getting to a couple of the exhaust manifold bolts.

If the 3.4 head is like the 3.8, you can loosen the rocker arm enough to get the push rod out without taking the rocker arm completely off. If you are reusing the push rods and lifters, you want to make sure you put them back in the same place you removed them. I didn't use a valve spring compressor with mine. Once I replaced the head gasket, I just torqued the rocker arm back down to the torque specs listed in the manual. Haven't had any problems.

get a factory servcie manual for your yr and model. take pictures lots of em before u start so u can see all the wires and hoses and were they go. u dont need a valve compressor unless u are planning on replacing the valve springs or do a valve job yourself and if u are taking the heads off its way easier after the heads are off...

Do not put the engine back together without taking the heads to a machine shop to get checked out, and have them shaved if they need to be trued up.
A warped head is sometimes the reason behind a blown gasket.
