Default Starter issue 97 V6

hey i have a 97 RS camaro and latly it has been having problems starting. When i would turn the key and try to crank it over the battery meeter would drop to nothing and i would get about 3 volts max. I would then turn it off and try agin and even when not trying to crank it would have no power. is there some residual drain going on the battery or lockout feture that i dont knwo about. When i disconect the battery and reconect it it returns to normal and i can ushualy get it to start after doing taht a couple of times
any help?

you might want to make sure that your battery post are clean and that you have a good connection.

Starters usaully don't fail, the things that go bad are the starter gears and the silinoids. I say get your starter and battery tested than go from there.

i went out and got a new starter so i know it is good. But today when i turned my car to the run position(not trying to crank it) everything went black and shut down i checkd the voltage and i was geting like 6 from the battery. So i disconected the battery and waited a minnet and then put it back together and it worked any ideas on what would cause this shut off? thanks

All I can think of is a loose connection.

Dude this is almost definatly just a bad connection. THe same thing happened to my brothers Avenger about 10 months ago. It wouldnt start, then the voltage would drop. After that he would try to start it, even though everything worked in the "run" position, it all went away when he tryed to start it. Dont just clean the battery terminals, look at the cables, if it is even slightly cracked and not holding the terminal tight enough that could do it.
