Start-up problem must
Hey, I have a 1998 Camaro v6 3.8L all stock. Since about 15k miles ago I have to give it gas on startup. I have to rev it at around 2k rpm for about 5 seconds then I let off and everythings runs fine(idles at 1k rpm). I'm just now takin the time to fix it, cause someone told me that can't be good with it being fuel injected. Any ideas to fix this? I'm trying to fix it quick because I need to sell it. Everything else runs great on the car I just thought that might not look too good when letting someone test drive it. Thanks!
Try priming the fuel pump before attempting to start the engine. Turn the key ON & OFF several times before attempting to start the engine. Keep your foot off the gas pedal. If the engine now starts right up, it is a sign that the fuel pressure is not holding when the engine is off.

What pete said but it could also be what we use to call a lazy IAC. YOu could try cleaning the IAC. Sometimes the get all googed up sometime they just need replaced.

It is always a good idea to change the fuel filter regularly, but it should have no relation to your problem. Check the fuel pressure with a gage to verify that the fuel system is actually losing pressure. If it is, then there are several possibilities:
The check valve in the fuel pump failed and the pump has to be replaced.
One or more injectors are leaking. (My want to try fuel injector cleaner)
Pressure regulator went bad and has to be replaced
Actual fuel leak
