Default Speedometer reading

I was on the way home from just buying this 01 camaro and it seemed as though i was going 30 but the speedo said i was going 55 and when i felt i was going 55 it sayed i was going 70??? I know the speed can creep up on you in a camaro but this is rediculous. I was on my way to work going 70 on a little road and heck everybody was riding my tail. So i went 90. lol Last week i bought a speedo for my car and so i know that its not my gauges now. What else could it be. Or is it just me lol

There are a few ways to check it. Either by using a scan tool and monitoring the vehicle speed, by using a hand held GPS unit that displays speed, or to simply have a friend set their vehicle at 55mph on cruise control and try to match his speed and comparing the numbers.

A faulty vehicle speed sensor may sent incorrect information to the PCM and to the gauge.

Ok I checked my speed and got my brother to go 55 in his s10 and my car was reading 72mph. I need to know where the speed sensor is and how to fix this problem. Also does anyone know if this will put extra miles on my car.

Thanks in advance
