Yeah... It happened. And I am fuming right now.

Anyway I am sick and tired of contorting my body to try and get this thing up and running. I am to the point of just pulling the motor.

Can anyone point me to a link that describes what to do in order to pull this 3.8? I can;t really come up with a way to drill out and remove the broken header thread/bolt in the amount of room I have. It happened on the drivers side. Steering is in the way (of course).

This wasn't my fault actually. Upon inspecting the bolt it seems there was major damage from heat and rubbing. It probably would have snapped off no matter what I did.

So what I would like is some help on removing the engine. Tips/tricks. diagrams??? What would I need to do it? I am seriously pissed right now. But hey, **** happens right?

Drop it out of the bottom. You pretty much have to remove everything connected to the body from the motor. It takes me 45 mins with a lift. I'll type up a list:

Brake lines from ABS block
Strut tower bolts
Remove driveshaft (and shifter linkage if automatic car)
Trans mount
6 k-member bolts
unhook PCM harness and lay it on the engine
unbolt A/C compressor from the block so you don't looks your refrigerant
steering knuckle
fuel lines
radiator hoses + drain coolant
Trans lines if auto car

I am soooo depressed right now... But I will overcome.

 

i had it up a bit to far lol the hardest part is getting started. took a day to get it out and i took my time.

 

Seems to me it would be easier to pull the head with the broken bolt rather than pulling the entire engine, just to get to a broken header bolt. lol

 

And an easier "remedy" still, if it doesn't leak, don't fix it. Are you getting an exhaust leak? Leave it alone if you aren't.

 

^^^ That is how I feel about exhaust stuff. It is best left alone unless really necessary. It would be nice if the manufacturers used better material that would not just corrode away from exposure to high temp.
