Default Slow Coolant Loss

My 1997 3800 V6 has been losing coolant during the past few months, about a quart per month. There are no signs of coolant leaking externally, and never any found on the ground. The exhaust doesn't show any signs of burning coolant either, so I am at a loss. I've read up on the 3800 series IIwith a plasticintake manifold, leaking around the EGR pipe, but my engine has an aluminum upper intake manifold. I also checked the passenger floor for any leaks, but is is also dry. Any suggestions on where the leak might be

There is a little plastic elbow that goes from the tensioner assembly to the intake manifold. It's hard to see, but they are known for leaking.

I checked the block area under the elbow, and it does appear to be a little wet in that area. I had replaced the idler pullye (and elbow) 3 years ago, so I know what is involved to replace. I'm gonna clean the area and see if the wetness re-appears before I make this repair. Thanks for the tip, StanGT

It's the water pump. Found because leaking fast enough that the coolant trail was visible and coolant showing on crossmember under engine. Most obvious sign of leak was fluid on the plastic shield behind the crankshaft pulley. I am glad that it wasn't a head gasket. Water pump is an easy replacement on this engine.

Do you know what the part # or part name of the elbow? it appears that i have the same problem, slow leak from the waterpump area. im buying a new water pump and would like to replace the elbow while ive got the car apart. almost 100k miles so i figure i could use a new one to avoid trouble down the line.

I'll check it out when I get home. I got mine at Oriellys. In fact I have an extra one. When I replaced my tensioner assembly (after breaking it trying to get to the elbow), it came with the elbow. At that point I already had purchased one.
