Default shudder during acceleration?

My 98 automatic has this problem that I would best describe as either slipping or shuddering during slightly hard acceleration (like starting from the bottom of a hill). It gets out of 1st with no problem but in 2nd gear it hesitates with the RPMs around 2-3000 (it has only happened twice so I'm not too sure about it). I think it did it in 3rd as well. I'm assuming this was a trans problem, so I made sure the fluid is good, which it was. Any thoughts on what the cause could be? I'm going to have it checked out this weekend but wanted to know possible causes. Hopefully I don't need a new trans

mycar did a slightly similar thing and it was the EGR going bad but my check engine light came on because of it, dont know if your light is on. shudders at 50-55 every time no matter what.

Check engine light is not on, and i would say this takes place between 20-30 mph. Could it possibly be caused by a faulty ignition source like plugs, wires, or coils?

I don't know, I didn't ask the guy I bought it from. I've had the car for about a year and a half and have rarely driven it until now (I think I put on maybe 350 miles since I got it), so I haven't changed them either.

If it was me and I did not know how old that stuff is I would start there.

Ok thanks. Assuming it was one of those items, why would this problem only pop up during certain RPMs?

Most common complaint would be a miss under load. The load on spark is based on cylinder pressure. Cylinder pressure can be higher at lower RPMs because they get a better charge.

Again I am not saying that is what is wrong but if you don't know when that stuff was done you need to get it up to date. About 6 years on the wires and I like to do filters 2 years. Time hurts wires more then use so sitting can be just as hard on them as driving.

Thanks again, I'll have to try it and see what happens.
